"I was that person. You know the one, if it was a new fad diet on the market, I was the first one to try it. Fen-Phen, yup got a heart valve condition from that one, HCG Diet, eat only 500 calories, and don't expect your hair to fall out, or worse, you do, because you literally are running on empty? Those are the highlights, there are so many more! I knew what I needed to do, paid for all the trainers, listened to the advice, but never followed through with it. My body image was so messed up, in my mind, fat people (me) shouldn't be eating.
After 30 some years of that mindset, I'm finally free! I started working out with amazing strong women, who had muscle, definition, self-esteem, and this was just what I needed to show me that you can have curves, muscle, and just the right amount of fat, and still EAT! There was no comparing ourselves to each other, there was only lifting up and encouraging, and helping push other positively.
Next came the most important part, the nutrition. Body by Summer was the last piece of the puzzle. In her app, those women are all struggling with the same issues: "How do I get enough protein? Life got in the way, but I'm back on track! I need an easy weeknight meal! I'm sick, I want to eat XYZ, instead of protein."
You name it, we all did it, thought it, and needed help getting through it.
The real change for me was seeing the corroboration between when I fueled my body, to how much better I performed in the gym. Sleeping the right amount, easy on the alcohol, helps also, it's all so connected, but for me it was the food part. When I had no time to eat and only had coffee before a 4:30pm workout, I felt sluggish, and many times ready to pass out. On the other hand, when I hit my protein goals, and ate the right macros, I was at the top of my workout, feeling great, full of energy. Carbs were even enjoyed, your body needs those!
I can't tell you how invaluable Summer's program has been for me, physically, and more important mentally! I want to eat, and I enjoy food, and I'm proud of my muscles, and that my body will support me if I continue to fuel it, and take care of it. It has finally clicked after so many wasted years, but I'm glad it's "better late than never!"
